A copy made by William Hoffman of a manuscript written by Williams in 1851, partly in the form of a journal with daily entries for September 15-21, 1851. Concerning maritime activity off the southern Oregon coast in 1850-1851, Indian hostilities, the inland exploration commanded by W.G. T'Vault to the head of the Coquille and back down the coast to Port Orford. Bound in is a letter from B.F. Dowell to Bancroft, 1878.
